Course descriptions:
This class is designed for people who speak Louisiana French (a.k.a. Cajun French) and want to develop reading skills in the language using authentic Louisiana stories, songs and spoken narratives.
The teacher:
Amanda LaFleur was born in Ville Platte in 1957. Over her thirty-six year career, she taught at the elementary, secondary and university levels, developing materials for students interested in learning Louisiana French and for teachers looking to incorporate Louisiana French in their traditional classes. She is the author of Tonnerre mes chiens: A Glossary of Louisiana French Figures of Speech and co-author of The Dictionary of Louisiana French: As spoken in Cajun, Creole and American Indian Communities. She served as coordinator of Cajun Studies at LSU from 1998 to her retirement in 2015.
